Banner's patented D.A.T.A. (Display
And Trouble Alert) indicator system warns of marginal sensing conditions, usually
before a sensing failure occurs. This self-checking diagnostic system warns of
a problem by flashing one or more lights in a multiple-LED array, and by sensding
a warning system to the system logic controller (or directly to an audible or
visual alarm) by way of the OMNI-BEAM's dedicated alarm output. The D.A.T.A. system
indicator LEDs are located on top of the sensor head, and are viewed through a
transparent LEXAN® cover.
D.A.T.A. system (U.S. patent number
4965585) indications are given for the following:
Received light signal strength (10-element moving-dot indicator)
Moisture inside the sensor head
High temperature inside the sensor head
Low supply voltage or overload
High excess gain
Low excess gain
Low contrast
Adjustments
Selection for LIGHT/DARK OPERATE, NORMAL/LOW sensing hysteresis, N/O or N/C D.A.T.A.
system alarm output, STANDARD or FINE signal strength indicator scale factor.
Sensor GAIN.
DELAY and HOLD settings for optional output timing logic.
Supply Voltages
With dc power block: 10 to 30V dc.
With ac power block: 105 to 130V ac (50/60Hz) or 210-250V ac (50/60 Hz).
Output Types and Capacities

OMNI-BEAM(tm) Q45 Series Sensors
Our popular OMNI-BEAM Q45 family is a line of self-contained photoelectric sensors designed especially for applications where toughness, economy, and performance are important. All Q45s are designed to withstand 1200 psi washdown to far exceed their NEMA 6P (IEC IP 67) rating. Accessory plug-in modules providing pulse or delay output timing and/or a 7-element LED signal strength display are available. Additionally, the Q45X Series accommodates fieldbus interface expansion cards. Six sensor series, which include all sensing modes, are offered. For additional information, see the Q45 Series specifications page
Q45VR2 Series sensors operate from
90-250V ac. The output is an SPDT form "C" electromechanical relay capable of
switching up to 250V ac, 30V dc, 5 amps (resistive load).
Q45BW22 Series sensors also operate
from 90-250V ac. The output of these sensors uses a solid-state FET capable of
switching a load of 300 mA. The output of these sensors is light/dark operate
switchable, and features resettable short circuit and overload protection.
Q45BB6 Series sensors operate from
10-30V dc. Their output is solid-state bipolar: one current sinking (NPN) and
one current sourcing (PNP) open collector transistor, light-dark operate switchable.
Each output is capable of 250 mA, maximum.
Q45VR2, Q45BW22, Q45BB6, and Q45X models all have highly-visible status indicator LEDs for POWER, SIGNAL, and OUTPUT located beneath a raised dome in their transparent o-ring sealed LEXAN® cover (photo above, right). The green POWER indicator lights whenever power is applied to the sensor, and flashes in the event of an output overload or an output short-circuit (except in Q45VR2 electromechanical relay models). The red SIGNAL LED (our patented AID system*) lights whenever the sensor sees its modulated light source, and pulses at a rate proportional to the strength of the received light signal. The yellow OUTPUT indicator lights whenever the sensor's output is conducting. This is especially useful when a timing logic module is used and SIGNAL and OUTPUT conditions are not concurrent.
(*U.S. patent #4356393) Also located beneath the o-ring sealed top cover are controls for light/dark operate selection and SENSITIVITY adjustment. Optional output timing logic, 7-element LED signal strength display, and logic/display modules slip easily into the top of the sensor and provide adjustable delay or adjustable pulse timer logic and/or received light signal strength display.
The Q45 family also includes the following: Q45X Series sensors with fieldbus capability, Q45AD9 Series NAMUR sensors for use in hazardous locations, Q45UBB6 Series ultrasonic sensors, and Q45LL Series laser-diode long-range retroreflective sensors.
Q45X Series sensors operate from 10-30V dc and may be used either with or without an optional output logic/signal strength display module or a fieldbus-compatible plug-in expansion card. When used alone or with a logic/display module, these sensors feature AID circuitry and bipolar output: one current-sinking (NPN) and one current-sourcing (PNP) open collector transistor, each capable of 250 mA maximum load.
When the appropriate fieldbus card is installed, the Q45X becomes a "smart" sensor capable of connecting directly to any one of several fieldbus protocols including Devicenet (tm), SDS(tm), Seriplex(tm), and ASI(tm). If the fieldbus protocol is ever changed, Q45 sensors may be quickly converted, without disturbing mounting or alignment, by simply substituting a different fieldbus card.
Q45AD9 Series NAMUR sensors are 2-wire sensors, designed in accordance with DIN 19 234, for use in hazardous areas with approved switching amplifiers having intrinsically-safe input circuits. NAMUR sensors operate by changing their output current as a function of the "dark" and "light" sensing conditions. A SIGNAL LED lights whenever the sensor sees its modulated light source. All sensing modes are available. Q45AD9 Series sensors carry KEMA, ETL, CSA, and FM approvals.
Q45UBB6 Series piezolectric ultrasonic sensors.
Q45LL Series sensors are laser-diode
retroreflective sensors with sensing ranges up to 225 feet (70 meters). Both polarized
and non-polarized retroreflective models are offered. These sensors have a comprehensive
3-LED indicator system for POWER, SIGNAL, and OUTPUT conditions. The high power
and narrow beam of Q45LLs makes them ideal for applications that are otherwise
unsuited to retroreflective sensing.
